Get a PVC Aadhar Card

Aadhar has been around in India for 10 years now. The various machineries of the government has included unique identity into various transactions. So much so, that you need to carry a copy of Aadhar card with you, wherever you go. It can be a banking, governmental transaction or even a transaction with a private entity, you almost always need Aadhar.

The Need

Aadhar came in paper form originally. Since the card is as big as a normal paper sheet, it is difficult to maintain it on person. So many entities have come up with a way to convert it in to credit card form factor. However, UIDAI does not approve this method. This is because, such cards do not have any feature for authentication and security. Thus anyone can easily make a counterfeit one.

However, seeing the inconvenience, the UIDAI has now come out with a portable Aadhar card, made out of PVC. This card has dimensions similar to your regular credit card. You data is printed on front and back along with the Unique Identification Number. There is a holographic sticker on the front of card to prove its authenticity. A QR code on the back side contains all the demographic information of the card holder. You can scan this QR code for quick Aadhar authentication, at places where scanner is available.

The Procedure

Here’s the procedure to order a PVC Aadhar card.

Go to https://uidai.gov.in/

Click on “My Aadhar”. A dropdown menu will pop out. Select “Order Aadhar PVC Card” as shown below.

The page will change ot login screen. Enter your Aadhar number and the “Security Code”, which appears on the screen. Next, if you already have a mobile number registered with UIDAI, press “Send OTP” button.

Read ahead if you have not linked your phone to Aadhar.

If you do not have a mobile number linked to Aadhar, enter a number which you use.

Next, you will get an OTP on the phone. Enter the OTP in the space provided and press “Submit”. Do not forget to check the “Terms and Conditions” and tick on the check box.

After you submit the OTP, the next page will show the details for your card. Before you click on “Make Payment”, verify correct details.

The final page is to make payment. Pay 50 rupees through the mode of your choice. The 50 rupees include printing and sending the Aadhar card via Speed Post.
