Who says we are a country full of poor. Just look at the vast amount of wealth, and I mean legal wealth owned by individuals without being involved in scams and without having any corporate links. If you have been following the happenings of past few weeks, you will be amazed to know the amount of wealth we have bestowed upon our Gods and Goddesses.

My God!! A trillion rupees hidden(though not with any wrong intentions) in the secret vaults below the temple!!! I had been to this temple. I had seen it’s grandeur. I expected it to be the last place with an yearly budget of a state hidden under it. This treasure has been collecting under the temple for many centuries now, and the royal families didn’t ever touch it, even during the hardest of times. Their intentions were noble. But what use are such intentions if the money is not put to a good use for the people. The Gods and the Goddesses desire no piece of this earthly treasure. So what’s the point of preserving it for them, while the people who donated it need to go abroad, separated from their families for a long time, to fill their hungry┬ástomach? Why let this wealth rot under the temple, while people who parted with it, are without three meals a day?

Forget the scamsters. You can’t get the money back from them. But Baba Ramdev, Satya Sai Baba trust, Sree Padmanabha temple trust, Sabrimala temple trust, Tirupati temple trust, Siddhivinayaka temple trust, Divine retreat centre, Tabor Ashram and many other religious trusts who make such kind of money, can’t you all come together and do something for the society who has bestowed, whatever little they had, upon you? Bypass the government. Build your own schools. Build your own hospitals. Fund your own industries so that the unemployed get work.

God will never want this earthly possessions. He always wants you to love each other. Help each other. He wants you to live by his teachings.

  1. True , very true , But I guess this lay hidden for all this while coz I guess very few people were in the know that there is such a treasure lying for 300 years . I think only the descendants of the royal family of Travancore knew of this wealth in the temple vaults and even they were not quite aware of the magnitude.Marthanda Verma , the maharaja of Travancore considered himself and his dynasty to be the servants of Lord Padmanabha (Padmanabha Swamy – Lord Vishnu reclining on his serpent) – Padmanabha Dasa and all the wealth accumulated during his reign which was donated to the Gods was kept by him on behalf of the Lord, in the temple vaults. I guess during his times he didnt feel the need to dip into the treasures for the welfare of his people and State. But it is true that during the time of a great Famine the Raja did use part of the wealth for rehabilitating and giving succour to his people.

On another note this pose of Vishnu reclining on Sheshnaga is also called as Anantha Shesha. The city of Thiruvananthapuram is named after him as the “City of Lord Ananta.”

But your guess is as good as mine , now that the wealth is in the open ,whether it will be spent fruitfully or will all the squabbling start and the Lord only knows how much of it will be pilfered to get into the hands of the corrupt…

    • Wow, Madhu. Those were the times. I guess all this will go either to the temple trust OR will make its way to some obscure museum that no citizen will ever visit. On a side note, a lot of new facts I didn’t know about.

  2. “Lord only knows how much of it will be pilfered to get into the hands of the corrupt”

The almighty doesn’t need to know…we all do…and I guess Mr. Sharbat Powder must be definitly eyeing a spot among the Trustees or even better, head the trust committee čÖé

No wonder he has lost his interest in the lucrative BCCI Chairman spot!

  3. Great post, Nilesh. Well, in my opinion, what the temple wishes to do is completely their wish. Since it’s not Govt’s money or tax-payer money.

    • It definitely shouldn’t go to the government chest. Else it will literally go into their chests. I feel that the temple trust should open up their minds and use it for some good cause. Serve people, generate jobs, make a better kerela…..
